Faith In Action: Your Year-End Giving

By December 22, 2015Stewardship & Generosity

staff_Roger Partridge_150Your year-end gift is critical to our church meeting our 2015 commitments. As of December 21, we are approximately $400,000 below our income projections. All gifts, regardless of amount, will help us reach that goal — so please make your gift now.

Outright Gifts

Making an outright gift to FUMCFW can maximize your charitable deduction and confer immediate benefits to the church. There are two options for making an outright gift. You can:

  • Make your gift online* at, or
  • Mail your check (please allow plenty of time for mail processing)

* Online gifts are made through our secure giving site, ensuring that your credit card, along with all other information you submit, is processed in a safe environment.

Special Tax-Free IRA Gifts

On December 18, Congress passed legislation retroactively extending the charitable Individual Retirement Account (IRA) rollover for 2015 and making this provision permanent for future years. A total of up to $100,000 can be transferred directly from traditional or Roth IRAs to one or more qualified charities, such as FUMCFW, free from federal income tax each year. Amounts given in this way count toward required IRA minimum withdrawal amounts for the year of the gift.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

A gift of appreciated publicly traded stock (securities) may allow you to make a larger gift than you thought possible. For example, if your securities have appreciated in value, you can avoid the capital gains tax that otherwise would apply to that appreciation if you sold the securities. You also may be eligible for an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities. So with these tax savings, the “cost” of your gift to our church may be much less than the actual value of the gift you are making, and for most of us, this “bonus” makes this form of giving all the more appealing!

The Main Church Office will be open until 5:00 pm on December 31 if you need to drop off a last-minute check. (Please note, however, that the church will be closed on Christmas Day and December 28.) And, of course, website donations are accepted 24/7.
