“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
— Jeremiah 29:11
Last week, Dr. Tim Bruster and I heard that scripture read at the dedication of The Morris Foundation’s Women & Children’s Center at Presbyterian Night Shelter. It was a wonderful program that dedicated a building focused on providing dignity and hope for up to 40 mothers and 100 children. FUMCFW was mentioned in the remarks for being a partner church back in 1984 when The Presbyterian Night Shelter was founded. Cecilia Abbott, First Lady of Texas, coined a new word — “Texanthropy” — to compliment the many contributors to this project. With these community contributions and a generous lead gift from The Morris Foundation, The Presbyterian Night Shelter has taken a bold step into changing the lives of women and children in need. I’m proud that once again our First Church family can play a part in providing support for this important community resource.
