Very soon you will be invited to make a commitment to FUMCFW for our 2016 operating budget. Our Stewardship theme this year is “This Is Why I Give” — and it invites each of us to reflect upon our own personal stewardship. People often talk easily about their faith journey, but how often do we share with each other how our stewardship fits into that faith journey? Jesus taught his disciples about giving — and he talked about it in many scripture passages — but for some reason we hesitate to talk about it.
This past week I shared my own stewardship story at a staff meeting — not to brag about my giving, but to encourage our church staff to share their stewardship story with their individual ministry groups. I’ll be talking more about that later (and I’ll be sharing it during worship on January 24), but as we launch this year’s stewardship emphasis, I want to personally invite each of you to spend some time in quiet reflection on why it is that you give to our church — and then share your own stewardship story with others in our church family. I can promise you it will spark some very interesting and enjoyable conversations!
I hope you’ll read the letter from Fred Cantu when you receive your stewardship card this next week and join us in making your 2016 commitment to the financial support of our wonderful church.
