Faith In Action: Advent Giving

There are so many wonderful stories to tell this time of year. For now, I’m going to focus on three of the most recent examples of how our church family is working together to Love God, Serve People, and Transform Lives during this season of Advent. The Advent music presented by the Choral Union and Dr. Bradley Hunter Welch on Sunday morning was amazing. The choir, the brass, the percussion, the organ — all were spectacular. To all who were part of this very special morning of music, thank you for your many hours of dedicated work and rehearsal time. On Sunday afternoon we shifted to family time with Christmas Cheer, a churchwide caroling and Christmas event. I had the privilege to volunteer with the setup, and although I didn’t get to see and hear the families who shared Christmas carols in the four different retirement centers they visited, I know that experience was transformative — both for the residents whose days were brightened and for the families who delivered this cheer together. I also saw all the fun crafts, photo booth, carriage rides, and snacks that awaited the families upon their return. What an exciting and fulfilling afternoon for our church family! Then on Monday morning, our Advent activities shifted to the First Street Methodist Mission, where a special meal and gift for the guests of the Mission came in the form of two food trucks to provide a hot lunch item and beverages, homemade cookies from our volunteers, and a new backpack as a gift from the Mission. The weather even showed up with beautiful sunshine! Because of your gifts to our church, we are able to attend worship with inspiring music, offer amazing activities for families, and provide important services to our less fortunate neighbors.

As always, if you have any questions about supporting the ministries of our church, please contact me (rpartridge@myfumc.org) at 817/339-5098. To make an online gift to our church, please go to fumcfw.org/givenow.
