Serving in the Face of Disaster

By January 25, 2017Outreach

umcor_hsOne of the primary ways the Central Texas Conference responds to disasters is via our Early Response Team within the conference, as well as to help other areas facing disasters, to provide a caring presence in the aftermath. There are many ways to help, and those who are called to serve do so in different ways.

Take Judy-Lynn Barrow, for example, a trained member of our team who especially enjoys working with rescued animals from disasters. “I feel like in this world it is sometimes so hard to see that what we do makes a difference,” Judy-Lynn says. “With animals, you can see the effect it has on them almost immediately and, as a bonus, you are rewarded almost as fast. The animals give to me tenfold and it’s just simple and basic things I do for them. I love knowing that God gave me gifts and I can make a difference using the resources He gave me.”

If you feel called to serve, we would love to have you on our Early Response Team! Just register and participate in one of the trainings taught throughout the year. Our next session is on Saturday, February 4, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm in Room 350.
