“Handling Life’s Challenges with Grace and Humor”
Speaker: Cherie Cotner, Former FUMCFW member and author
The October Fruit of the Spirit is Gentleness.
“Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near,” (Phil. 4-5 NRSVue)
Come be inspired and cheered by Cherie Cotner (and her service dog!) as she discusses her recent book, Breaking Your Neck is a Pain in the Butt: How I Handled Life’s Challenges with Grace and Humor (Covenant Books, 2022). Cherie, a former member of FUMCFW, was left quadriplegic after a car accident six months after her wedding. Despite the obstacles after the accident, she worked in community relations at Carter Blood Center and had two children. Following a divorce, she moved from Fort Worth to Houston and worked in the Marketing Department at Sam’s Club for 13 years. Cherie currently is retired and lives in College Station where she enjoys volunteering with Aggieland Pets with a Purpose. She also advocates for Service Dogs Inc which has provided her with two wonderful service dogs. Cherie regularly visits her three grandchildren in Houston, Texas.
Cherie writes about her book on her Amazon page, “When I thought of the title Pain in the Butt, I meant it figuratively, as I do not even have sensation there! As I have shared my title with people through the years, the reaction is always a laugh, as I had hoped to invoke humor. I wrote it with that in mind. I hope once you read my book, you will see despite the turn my life took on that, fateful day in December, I not only survived the tragedy but went on to live an exuberant and joyful life, ‘Joie de Vivre.’”
Childcare provided — be sure to contact Paula Wagstaff (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Friday, October 28.
All women are invited to luncheons & programs sponsored by United Methodist Women.
