This season of Lent we are focusing together on how we can learn to Listen for Grace as individuals and as a faith community. We talk about grace, we sing about grace, and we all can point to great examples of grace we’ve witnessed in our own lives and in the lives of others. But how do you actually listen for God’s grace — and discern your own opportunities to be a blessing by extending that grace to others?
In our time of study, reflection, and self-examination this Lenten season, we’ll be offering several tools to help you learn to Listen for Grace in your own life, in our community, and in the world around us. Our Lenten devotional offers space for journaling and meditation on a few thoughts keyed to each week, a passage of scripture, and a specific word to focus our listening on each day, which those of you who enjoy social media can use for a special daily #FUMCFWLent hashtag challenge. (For more information on these and our other Lent offerings, please visit fumcfw.org/lent18.)
As we take this sacred journey together, I invite you to prayerfully consider how you might extend God’s love and grace to others by sharing your blessings in a “Second Mile” Easter Offering to benefit the following special ministries of our church:
- First Street Methodist Mission to provide emergency food, clothing, infant formula, and limited financial assistance with respect and compassion for all whom we serve.
- Infant Formula Program of First Street Methodist Mission to provide formula, diapers, and clothing to parents and caretakers of infants 12 months old and younger.
- United Community Centers to provide a fun, safe summer experience for children in partnership with United Community Centers’ Summer Campership Program.
- Methodist Justice Ministry to protect women and children from domestic violence, abuse, and neglect, offering new lives free of violence, abuse, fear, and self-loathing.
You can make your Easter Offering by check (please make check payable to FUMCFW and put Easter Offering in the memo line) and mail it, drop it by the Main Church Office, or put it in the offering plate during worship; online at fumcfw.org/givenow (please choose Easter Offering from the drop-down menu); via text (text 817-241-2327 and put Easter Offering and the amount in the message field); or use the ShelbyNEXT Giving app (download ShelbyNEXT app to your smartphone and log in to make giving through the app a snap!).
Regardless of how you choose to give, please know that these ministries appreciate your generous support for the vital work they do on behalf of our faith community. By giving to these ministries you become an active part of the difference we make every day in the lives of others as, together, we Listen for Grace to guide us in all the ways we can Love God, Serve People, and Transform Lives. Thank you for all you do for our church and its ministries.
Grace and Peace,
Dr. Tim Bruster
