Good morning! I hope this day finds you and your family well, and I want you to know that you are in my prayers daily during this difficult time.
I invite you to take a few moments with me to reflect on today’s Upper Room Devotional below — as well as on the theology woven into “It is well with my soul.”
Today’s Scripture:
Psalm 147
Praise for God’s Care for Jerusalem
1 Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God;
for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.
2 The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3 He heals the brokenhearted,
and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure.
6 The Lord lifts up the downtrodden;
he casts the wicked to the ground.
7 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
make melody to our God on the lyre.
Tim’s Devotional Reflection for Today
Psalm 147 is a Psalm of praise. It is a Psalm of thanksgiving. It is a Psalm acknowledging the comfort and wholeness that God brings.
In our world today there is a lot that is heartbreaking. There are many who are downtrodden. More than once just during this past week someone has said to me in response to something that has happened to another person or a tragedy that has befallen a family or a community, “That is heartbreaking.” Every day heart are broken by grief or betrayal or rejection. God heals the brokenhearted.
Every day we learn about the plight of our downtrodden brothers and sisters in our community, our nation, and the global community. God lifts up the downtrodden. How does God do that? Through people who care and are engaged as instruments of God’s work to lift up those who are downtrodden.
Do you feel brokenhearted? Do you feel downtrodden? The Lord heals the brokenhearted and lifts up the downtrodden.
