Carter Work Project Volunteer Information

By August 4, 2014Outreach

Now that we’ve reached our financial goal . . .

During the week of October 6 – 10, 2014, we’re looking for 125 volunteers, age 18 and up, to work for the Habitat for Humanity Carter Work Project, in which Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, will serve as both hands-on participants and the driving force behind this very special Habitat build.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Sign up in the Garden between services on Sundays August 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 — or until all the volunteer slots have been filled. You may also sign up online. For fairness and due to the high demand for specific time slots, all volunteer registrations will be time-stamped. Please indicate your first and second choices.
  • FUMCFW is assigned to 25 FUMC volunteer slots per day (125 total) between Monday, October 6 – Friday, October 10. Sign up is first-come, first-served. Volunteer applications may be subject to background checks.
  • Volunteer shifts are 7:00 am – 5:00 pm daily; no partial days or come-and-go opportunities available. Buses will transport volunteers to and from the build site each day.
  • The Carters will work on Monday and Tuesday, October 6 – 7, so be sure to sign up early to get one of those spots! On the remaining days, while the Carters are working at the build in Dallas, other special guests will serve as hands-on celebrity participants.
  • Former President Jimmy Carter will give the devotional before the build on Monday, October 6, and Dr. Tim Bruster will give the devotional and stay to work on Friday, October 10.
  • On Saturday, October 11 at 8:00 am in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth we’ll celebrate our accomplishments with Trinity Habitat at the Closing Ceremonies.
  • Following the closing ceremony, our FUMFW Youth will join other local youth ministries in Cowtown Brush Up, which will give a new coat of paint to 50 Fort Worth homes. FUMCFW has 20 volunteer slots available for youth age 13 and up to participate.
