I hope by now you have had the opportunity to read through the latest issue of CONNECT Magazine. Just seeing the cover will cause you to pick it up and start perusing.

For the most part, you could say this issue’s theme is art with wonderful articles featuring FUMCFW members and artists Dan Darr and Jo Ann Durham (One of Jo Ann’s paintings is featured on the cover).

A third article spotlights award-winning organist Dr. Yoon-Mi Lim, and a fun article will enlighten you on the comedy artform of improv which is a class and ministry known as Improv 1st happening right here at First Church under the guidance of Rev. Tom McDermott and church members Winn LaRue and Chuck Shanlever.

CONNECT, through these four articles along with two other well-done pieces, very cleverly illustrates Healthy Plate Discipleship — Worship, Serve, Play, Learn, Pray, and Give — in action.

As wonderful as all the articles are, I must admit my heart swelled when I got to the last page of the magazine and saw the “Giving Out of Bounds” profiles. Special thanks to Kelly Fox and Lori and Steve Bruns for enthusiastically agreeing to share their personal thoughts on giving. (I was actually blessed that two more members were also equally accommodating when asked to share and in the months ahead you will hear from them.)

Here are a couple of excerpts from Kelly’s and the Bruns’ comments:

“I used to think giving to the church was an obligation, but in recent years I have come to see it as a spiritual practice. This shift in perspective has helped me to give joyfully, not begrudgingly and it has opened my eyes to the ways God provides in my life.” — Kelly Fox

“We have found giving to be a way to make a tangible sacrifice, seek humility, trust in God, and oppose greed. We have also found that giving ensures God has a foothold in our lives in all areas of discipleship.” — Lori and Steve Bruns

I hope you have already picked up your issue. You can also read it online.

I have no doubt you will enjoy reading this issue of CONNECT from cover to cover and at the conclusion you will be inspired in a multitude of ways!
