Youth Ministries

First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth Youth Ministries is committed to helping all students understand that they are seen, known and loved by Christ. The Youth Ministries offer opportunities each week to help 6th – 12th-grade students connect with each other and grow in their faith. We are a community that welcomes, empowers, and serves all youth and equips them to go out and be God’s people in the world. If you are new to FUMCFW, welcome! We hope you will join us on a Sunday morning or evening. On either occasion, there will be a parent volunteer or staff member to greet you at the front door and introduce you to the rest of the youth staff and some other students your age.

Youth Worship & Weekly Programming

Our Sunday morning program just for youth offers a great chance to connect with friends and meet new people, worship God, and grow in faith. It begins in The Big Room of the Justin Building with donuts and lemonade every week! Then our students will be dismissed to Sunday School Classes by age. We wrap up in time for families to worship together at 11:00 am.

Sunday School

9:30 – 10:30 am | Justin Youth Building

Join us for in-person Sunday School every Sunday at 9:30am in the Justin Youth Building! All students entering 7th-12th grade in the fall, as well as our graduated seniors, are welcome to join us!

Refuge

Sundays
5:30 – 7:30 pm | Justin Youth Building

Students in 7th – 12th Grade are invited to join us in the Justin Youth Building every Sunday evening from 5:30 – 7:30 pm for our Sunday evening gathering called The Refuge! This is a time for youth to recharge and to hang out together. We begin each Refuge with a shared meal, but every week is different, so we’ll rotate between opportunities for service, worship, learning and fun!

Cornerstone Youth Choir Rehearsal

Sundays | 10:30-11:30 am | Choir Rehearsal Room

Cornerstone Youth Choir offers youth grades 7 – 12 an opportunity to learn to sing, perform, and lead worship music several times a year. All singers welcome — no auditions or experience required. Just come with a willing heart and a desire to help spread God’s love through music.

Youth Retreats

Youth Retreats offer opportunities for our students to rest, decompress, unplug, unwind and be outside. These weekends are low on stress and big on fun, faith, and friendships! Revolution Weekend is our biggest annual retreat and takes place every year over a weekend in January for all students in 7th-12th grade at Glen Lake Camp and Retreat Center. We bring in a band and a speaker who leads us in inspiring worship, and there is a balance of small groups, big games, and lots of time for resting and strengthening our faith and friendships. Our other retreats are times of worship, campfires, and fun out at Lyle Lodge, and vary year-to-year.

Youth Mission Trips

Every summer, our Youth Ministries offer several week-long service opportunities: one local “Mission Blitz” for middle school youth (just completed 6th – 7th grade), one mission trip for high school (just completed 8th – 12th grade) to a different location every year, and an additional opportunity for high school youth to serve at Camp Barnabas in Missouri – a summer camp for children with physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities and chronic illnesses. These trips are an amazing opportunity for youth to take a week out of their summer to experience the joy of God’s service. The experiences include helping with children’s church camps, home repairs, and construction, volunteering in food pantries, serving people experiencing homelessness, acts of neighborhood reconciliation, working in community gardens, and building relationships with new communities.

Local Service

Service is an incredibly important way for youth to express their faith, so we do tons of stuff in our church and community. We volunteer for Vacation Bible School and support First Street Methodist Mission by serving at the Mission and participating in collections throughout the year. We also serve in different capacities all year round to give our teenagers the opportunity to be God’s people in the world, including serving dinner at children’s shelters, packing meals for our neighbors in need, and responding to natural disasters through UMCOR.

Special Events

We always have a LOT going on in the Youth Ministries, including many special events throughout the year. Sometimes we host these events at the Justin Youth Building (Fall and Spring Kickoff, lock-ins, game nights) and sometimes we get out for our fun (Lyle Lodge, Main Event, Rangers and Mavericks games, Altitude Trampoline Park). Whether we stay in or go out, youth events are always a great time!

Sixth Grade Confirmation

At First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, all sixth graders are invited to join the Confirmation class. Confirmation is a continuation of the faith journey; and it is the beginning of a lifetime of commitment to the church. It is a special time set aside to learn about who God is, what United Methodist Christians believe, and what it means to be not only a member of a church, but also a disciple of Jesus Christ in our world. Confirmands will transition into Youth Ministries in February.
