Early on November 9th, as I pull into the Mission parking lot I see our neighbors waiting in the pre-dawn light to come inside to choose a coat for this winter season. Coat Day at the Mission is a bitter sweet day. Sweet in that we are happy to be able to gift our neighbors with a warm winter coat; but bitter at the same time, as we think about our friends being outside in the cold winter weather.
Coat Day is an example of collaborative partnerships to serve people who are homeless in our city. Each year the Mission partners with Broadway Baptist to ensure that everyone who wants a coat receives one either through Broadway or the Mission.
The Mission was able to outfit 168 men and women with a warm coat on Coat Day. Our partner at Broadway distributed 109 coats last Thursday. These coats are vital for those of our community who spend countless hours outside in the cold temperatures. Both ministries will continue to fit our neighbors with coats throughout the winter season as needed. Donations of coats are welcome along with your prayers for those who remain unsheltered this winter.
