Sunday afternoon, May 2, our church will host a two-hour “Christian Mindfulness Retreat” via Zoom from 2:00 – 4:00 pm CDT.
It is not only an “All-Church Event” for First Forth Worth. We will have many guests joining us around Texas and other states. (Before the challenges of COVID-19, most of us would not have been aware of possibilities for gatherings such as this through Zoom!)
Our presenter, Dr. Amy Oden, is a wonderful retreat leader who is now on the leadership team for The Academy for Spiritual Formation through The Upper Room.
Her book, Right Here, Right Now: The Practice of Christian Mindfulness, will be the basic focus for much of the 2-hour zoom retreat.
So what are some of the marks of Christian Mindfulness?
Dr. Oden writes: “Christian Mindfulness offers many benefits, including improved mental and physical health, better discernment of God’s voice, and a deeper spiritual life. Here I want to highlight five marks that are particularly important for a fast-paced and over-stimulated life:
1. We Are Free
2. We Are Real
3. We Are Rooted
4. We Are Grateful
5. Our Hearts Are Open to Others
In other words, we become more aware… “have eyes to see and ears to hear”. We become more aware of God’s Presence and the power of Grace and are freed to live more authentically and with resilience that opens us to God’s calling and power of compassion in the moment.
Mark your calendar to be with us Sunday, May 2 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm CDT. We’ll all be blessed by your presence.
Grace and Peace,
Dr. Len Deloney
