The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.
The face of the Lord is against evildoers, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord rescues them from them all.
He keeps all their bones; not one of them will be broken.
Evil brings death to the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.
The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.
Food For Thought:
The line that stands out to me in this passage of Scripture is “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.” Lately, I have been brokenhearted. There is so much violence and hate going on in this world that it leaves a person feeling brokenhearted. When I feel this way the best place to turn is to God. I know that God hears my cries and listens. I know that I am also called to speak up against the hatred of this world. I want you to think about how you are brokenhearted. How do you respond? Do you believe that God listens to your cries? How can you be a loving presence in the midst of hatred and suffering?
Mighty and powerful God,
through Jesus Christ our Savior
you come to save people in all times and places,
offering them new life in your presence.
Give us open hearts to receive your Chosen One,
that through him we may dwell with you
as faithful and committed disciples. Amen.
