Lent15_Ash WednesdayJoin the 2015 Lenten journey, starting today with Ash Wednesday services, offered at 12:15 and 7:00 pm, and special Prayer Stations — located this year in the Narthex and Sanctuary — to set your course through this time of reflection, reckoning, and renewal. Using the powerful Prayer of Saint Francis as our guide, we’ll bring our experiences of  hatred, injury, doubt, despair, darkness, and sadness into the light of God’s healing love as we Open to Peace in preparation for the Good News of Easter.

ASH WEDNESDAY — FEBRUARY 18, 2015

Traditional Services

“Lord, Make Me An Instrument Of Thy Peace”
12:15 & 7:00 pm | Sanctuary | Rev. Linda McDermott

Begin the journey through Lent with a moving service of self-reflection and invitation to renewal. As the ashes symbolizing human mortality are imposed, we remember that we are finite creatures living out eternal life in Christ. We pray, then, that God would teach us the ways of peace as we seek to be God’s people in this world.

Simultaneous Children’s Ash Wednesday Service

“Why Do We Get Ashes On Our Heads?”
7:00 pm | Leonard Memorial Chapel | Mister Mark Burrows

Children gather in the Chapel to sing songs, participate in many different forms of prayer, and receive the imposition of ashes as they learn about Ash Wednesday and its significance in this special kid-friendly service created to parallel adult worship in the Sanctuary.

Prayer Stations

Sanctuary & Narthex
7:30 – 11:45 am | 1:00 – 2:00 pm
5:00 – 6:45 pm | 8:00 – 9:00 pm

Prayer Stations are a Lenten opportunity for a variety of devotional and meditational experiences that invite you to go deeper in your personal walk. Eight stations will be set up in the Narthex and Sanctuary on February 18 (Ash Wednesday) and February 22 (the first Sunday in Lent). The stations correspond to the overall and weekly themes of the season as we go on a journey through the beloved Prayer of Saint Francis. They are designed for as much or as little time as your schedule allows. As you set aside moments to pray in different ways, connect to yourself, to your neighbors, and to God through prayer.

May you experience the depth of God’s love and guidance as you begin this Holy Season of Lent.
