A Challenge to FUMCFW Families from Church Member Linda Moore

linda-mooreMy husband and I joined First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth in part because we felt it was a good place for us, but mainly because we felt it was a good place to help us raise our young son. As he grew and became more involved in the Children’s Ministries and Choir, we came to realize the services and programs provided for him did not run themselves, nor were they really “free.” Volunteers had to help staff teach, monitor activities, and move kids from place to place. Parents also needed to pledge yearly and encourage others to do so in order to keep the programs robust. My son is many years past the youth department and, I’m happy to say, still a member of FUMCFW.

It is wonderful to see the opportunities available for children and youth now at FUMCFW. Much thought and preparation is done to help young ones feel part of the worship experience. The 11:00 am service program is a work of art especially designed to help children understand the message of the day and our traditional moments. I’m reminded again that these efforts need support from the adults — parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and the rest of us. Getting involved in the preparation for a service or program you enjoy provides you with a place to experience the satisfaction of hands-on helping and find a group of like-minded people to be your new friends.

As important as getting involved is making an annual financial commitment — small or large. Each Commitment Card is used for the forecasting and preparing of a budget, ensuring the programs you enjoy can continue and maybe expand for 2018.

I believe all members should participate in giving to the church and should complete an annual Commitment to Ministry and Operating Fund card, but my challenge is particularly to the families bringing their children to the programs and services designed especially for them. As Gary and I did, look around and notice the value of these wonderful experiences and think about how you can help keep them available for your family and those to come. Volunteer when you are able and witness firsthand the enjoyment of your children. Pray about your financial commitment and send in your card to show your intent to support the worship, education, and fun going on at First Church.
