What comes to mind when you hear Nativity Seen? Honestly, for me, because of the people of this church, I see Nativity every day I come to work. And, a week of spending time with the people I love most (and eating way too much turkey!) reminded me of God’s love and grace in so many ways.
So, as we start this season of Advent, I encourage everyone to really think about this year’s theme, and to expand your own image of a Nativity Seen here in our church family.
I see the Nativity in how the ushers, parking lot greeters, Welcome Center volunteers, hospitality cart greeters, and door greeters so selflessly give their time on Sundays so that everyone who enters our campus feels welcome. I notice the countless hours, as well as the financial support the lovely ladies of UMW give to various organizations, and it reminds me what putting faith into action looks like. I get a glimpse of God’s grace when I hear about the mission trips our youth take each summer and the work they do at Camp Barnabas. I see it through all of the dedicated volunteers at First Street Methodist Mission, the FUMC Library, Vacation Bible School, and any one of the other countless ways people in this church give of themselves without question. To me, this is Nativity Seen.
I’m reminded of what Nativity really looks like every time I see the people of this church spreading God’s love both outside and inside these walls. I see Nativity in how our Sunday School classes and other small groups care for one another, and in the faces of all the people leading, helping, and enjoying different styles of worship, and I realize how incredibly blessed I am to be part of FUMC Fort Worth. So this Advent, I invite you to take a step back from holiday busyness to really look around at all the wonderful ways we experience Nativity Seen as a faith community and extended church family. It’s a beautiful sight!
