Dear Members and Friends of First Church,
During this 2014 season of Advent, we are connecting the traditions in our homes and families — the timeless joy of watching our favorite Christmas movies — with vital words from the first chapter of John. As we enjoy this season together with a deeper reflection on what resonates with us in our favorite “reel” stories of Christmas — what Miracle on 34thStreet’s Fred Galley calls “The lovely intangibles like love, hope, faith, and joy . . . the only things that are truly worthwhile,” it’s easy to connect these thoughts with giving to those in need.
As followers of Jesus, we have many opportunities to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world with financial gifts to bless others who need your help. This year we ask your help in funding the following ministries:
Infant Formula for infants who are 12 months of age and younger; diapers and other nutrition items also provided when available
Kids Hope USA provides mentors to some of the at-risk children at T. A. Sims Elementary; now expanded to William James Middle School
Food 4 Kids supplies 100 at-risk children from I. M. Terrell Elementary School with food for the weekends
Methodist Justice Ministries works to obtain legal protections for abused women and abused/neglected children
African Orphan Endeavor African Orphan Endeavor helps provide education and school uniforms for 250 orphans and vulnerable children in Meru, Kenya
Costa Rica Ministry serves the spiritual, educational, medical, and physical needs of children and families in rural Costa Rica
Providence Place (Formerly Methodist Mission Home) helps young adults with disabilities achieve life/work skills, assists expectant mothers considering adoption, and welcomes those on the fringe of our community

Please join us as we celebrate together — through reel and real — the LIGHT of the world, what it means to BELIEVE, how we can RECEIVE Christmas, and the wonderful LIFE that is both our gift and our gift to the world. Click HERE to make your Christmas Offering now.
The life you transform could well be your own!
Grace and Peace,
Dr. Tim Bruster, Senior Pastor
