Week of October 29 — Unbounded Generosity Makes for Healthy Hearts

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Key Verses

Everyone should give whatever they have decided in their heart. They shouldn’t give with hesitation or because of pressure. God loves a cheerful giver. God has the power to provide you with more than enough of every kind of grace.

You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous in every way. Such generosity produces thanksgiving to God through us. Your ministry of this service to God’s people isn’t only fully meeting their needs but it is also multiplying in many expressions of thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:7-8, 11-12)

Thoughts

Take a moment and think about people you enjoy being with. Write down adjectives that describe their personality and qualities. Would two of the descriptors possibly be “generous” and “happy”? A recent study by Christian Smith and Hilary Davidson provides empirical evidence that people who are generous with their money, time, and associations are happier, healthier, grateful, and more resilient than their less generous counterparts. Can you imagine First Church bursting at the seams with unbounded generosity because our church is full of healthy hearts?

Question

What words would family, friends, and work colleagues use to define you?
